How do I make my new hard drive bootable?

I cloned my old hard drive to my new one, but I'm still booting under the old hard drive. How do I boot from the new drive?

Also, is it normal to hear small grinding noises from a new hard drive? I doubt it's the fan because that did happen earlier today and I cleared the wires away. When I booted on my old hard drive, it was silent, and when I'm booted on the new one (I found out how to temporarily boot on it but not permanently yet) it makes the sounds.

Since it's a Cavier Black, I'm not too sure if this is normal.

    Hi Nikolay,

You need to make the new HD the first HD in bios boot order.

Unless you used software with a correction mechanism , you will probably find windows won't boot.

In that case, a quick run of startup repair from the 7 dvd should fix it.

It depends - some drives are naturally quite noisy - if I listen carefully, or if the side is off the pc - I can hear mine - usually only at boot up - so it's hard to say.

How did you manage to make it temporarily boot?

What did you clone it with?

Run the disk utilities provided by your HD manufacturer.

"Grinding" isn't normal, but you have to be sure what you are hearing is HD noise and not something else. You may see reference to SMART statistics in that utility---SMART is helpful but your drive can fail immediately even though it passes SMART. The manufacturer may not want to take it back if it passes tests in the utility.

Putting a screwdriver head against the drive when it is grinding and the handle of the screwdriver against your ear may help you to confirm if the drive is the source of the noise.

I've successfully set boot priority to the new drive. The sound is in fact coming from the hard drive. I think it's naturally noisy.
