So your DVD drive is not SATA?

Only SATA device you have or intend to have is the single HD?

Only using 1 of those flat red cables?

According to WD's online SATA setup guide Doc WD's should have one connecting pins 1 and 2 for 'normal' use..

Quote:
Western Digital Serial ATA hard drives ship from the factory with a jumper shunt in the
Default position (across pins 1 and 2). It is not necessary to move the jumper shunt on the
drive for workstation or desktop use.
For more information on advanced jumper settings, refer to page 18.

My DVD drive is SATA.
And no, but as Doc said you can get converters for the white plugs
and to the last question, yes

If what Generator says is true, you would think that a jumper in any position on the block would prevent a floppy power cable from connecting.

Sergio:

Jumpers or no jumpers on the jumper block?? Put on your heavy duty eyeglasses.

No jumpers, just as on Doc's HDD.

OK.

Presumably the floppy connector did its thing, unfortunately. I did not realize that connection could even be made.

Wonder how come that drive did not ship with a jumper installed? If it had, you couldn't have done the damage.
