    printer sharing problems with XP

i know this is a windows 7 forum and i'm having an XP problem, but i'm trying to connect from a windows 7 computer, so no biggie. i have an Epson CX4800 printer connected to an XP Home SP3 machine. until yesterday, it was running SP1 and i was having this problem, so i thought a service pack upgrade would help. it didn't >.<. it simply won't share the printer. it doesn't give me any error or anything, it just refuses to do it. i go into printers and faxes, right click on it and go to sharing. then i click share this printer and apply and everything comes up alright. then i hit OK and i try to connect to it from 7 and nothing comes up. i go back to the XP machine only to see that it didn't save my preference. i go back into the sharing option and the sharing option is set to do not share. is there anything i can do to fix this?

Try this. Map the printer manually.

Networking from Printer attached to Win XP PC to Win 7

Take a look around the networking forum. Lot's of good info there.

i read the thread and i don't think it'll work. my problem isn't that windows 7 can't detect it, it's the windows xp is simply refusing to share it for some reason. the original problem is with xp, not with 7. but i'll read through it again tomorrow when i have time and see if it'll work.

The nice thing about the manual procedure is it works in many cases where sharing from the XP machine doesn't seem to work.

Give it a try and let us know.

    Good Luck.
