Might be a little early to ask...

On my Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5965 will i be able to replace the USB 2.0 card (2 ports) with USB 3.0 when they become commercially avalible?

Probably not. You need the motherboard to support USB3.

Wouldnt a BIOS update allow that once the update is released?

I doubt it. besides, the USB3 ports are going to be different. Maybe they will come with a PCI version. But whether that will work with existing mobo's is questionable.

The Toshiba Satellite is a notebook. Does that affect your answer?

(I believe it has no PCMCIA slots, or PC Card slots if you prefer.)

I know it is a notebook which does not make things easier. But even a PCMCIA solution is very doubtful because today the maximum data rate is about 130MB/sec, if I am not mistaken. You would need an interface like eSata that goes directly on the data bus because we are talking of up to 3GB/sec data transfer rates. So bottom line - there is little hope for your Toshiba.
