Windows 7 wont load
Ok i used to have the "Asus work station pro" mobo. It died about a month ago and i baught the Asus P5N-D. I baught new memory because my old memory was not on the approved list.
I then went into the bios screen and checked to make sure everything looked ok. Left all settings at default. The only strange thing was that my cpu multiplyer was set at 7 instead of 9.5 as it is supposed to be (also i have an e8500 which should not have an unlocked multiplyer) I changed the multiplier to the correct setting and exited and saved. Of course this just made matters worse and the computer failed to post. After reseting the cmos i go back into and its back to 7. So i attempt to boot windows. I then get to the windows screen and it freezes and restarts. On the next start it goes to the screen that asks me to go to the troubleshooter or to lauch windows normally. Just because i have no other options i use the trouble shooter and ofcourse it finds no problems.
I then flased the Bios to the newest versoin and this go the multiplier set to 9.5. I insert the windows 7 disk and run a memory check wich finds no problems. So another attempt to boot windows 7 fails. I also have windows vista on another hard drive so just to see what happens i attempt to boot that. No go will not even boot in safe mode.
Im kind of at a loss as to what i should do. Short of attempting a fresh install. (i am backed up but i dont want to go through that) can anyone give me something to try.
