Mouse wheel not wheeling any more

A strange thing happened a couple of days ago:
I use a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse and the mouse wheel stopped scrolling.
For instance on this forum I could scroll around the page using the mouse wheel.
I reinstalled the driver no difference.

I have a second computer also Windows 7 with a keyboard and mouse also wireless and the mouse scolls o/k. When I tried it on computer number 1 that mouse wheel also does not scroll.
Otherwise the mouse buttons are o/k.
    Any advice gladly taken.

    Thanks
    jack

Certainly sounds like a hardware issue, if it did not work in another machine. Personally, I would buy a new one, as mic are not that expensive.

Jonathan is right, they are so very cheap you may want to invest in a new one.

Make sure that the problem is not caused by dirt or dust. Get some compressed air and give it a good cleaning. You may want to use the air on you keyboard and computer, too. Its good to keep the computer clean from dust, etc, to decrease the possiblity of overheating.

Yes but as I said the mouse on my other computer works and scrolls o/k, but when I try it on my main computer it still works but does not scroll.
So I am thinking even buying a new mouse it probably wont work, its got me baffled (which does not take much doing)
It seems like a hardware/driver issue, even though I have re-installed the drivers.

How long has this been going on? Could a System Restore help?

    Try this

Tools>internet options>advanced>browsing>use smooth scrolling should be checked.

This is a comment not a challenge. I do not have smooth scrolling checked and my mouse wheel works fine. I think the smooth scrolling options affects how the mouse scrolls, not the scrolling itself.

I looked for and could not find Smooth Scrolling then realised I am using Firefox when I switched to IE I found it and it was already checked.
Then in IE I discovered scrolling worked, so it boils down to scrolling works in IE but not Firefox.
Now I have to find out if there is a fix for firefox.
Also it does not work in other applications such as Word.

    Jack,

If firefox is not working properly, you may want to use just IE. You may want to try Chrome, also.

Jack, in FF, click on Tools then select Options. In the Options window, select the Advanced tab (last tab on the right). There you will see browsing and the setting for smooth scrolling and auto scrolling. I have auto scrolling checked, but not smooth scrolling.
