I noticed today that may hard drive is itermitantly spinng all the time, even when I have nothing running. How can I check and see what's going on?

I ran this and checked my processes, but I don't know what's normal.
Harddrive is ALWAYS on when your PC has power, regardless if you have nothing running, has to get the OS from the HDD at some stage...
i know it's always on. I mean t is spinning (working) while I am doing nothing at the destop. By spinning, I mean the little green lite that indicates spinning is on most of the time.
AV scan, defrag, indexing...any of these things could be running in the background and accessing your hard drive.
You have to check the processes that are running at that time - either in Task Manager or Process Explorer.
