Help... WD Mybook is causing problems on boot up

I have had my new computer for about 4 months now and have used my WD external drive on it for that long with no problems. Now when I turn on my computer it gives me the following message:

    Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS

One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue.

To skip disk checking, press any key within 10 second(s).

It then starts to count down from 10---if Mybook is plugged in it freezes at this screen and will not go any further no matter if I hit any key before the 10 seconds is up. If I unplug Mybook and restart the computer using a hard reboot it still goes to this screen but will continue to boot after the 10 seconds and the pressing of any key.

This just started this week! Is there a patch out there to help Windows 7 and Mybook to communicate better?

I take C: refers to a fixed storage device within the computer and the Mybook is connected via USB?

Normally C would be your system partition. So I don't quite understand how this relates to MyBook.

Make sure you have installed the latest WD Drive Manager; you can get it at the WD support site.

If it's happening with it unplugged, and from your description of the issue, it's your internal HD that's the issue, not your WD.

And it would help if you filled these in two - System Specs

Ok, I filled in basic specs on my computer. This is a new laptop purchased at the end of 2009 right before Windows 7 came out---I was offered a free upgrade with the purchase. Best Buy installed the update for me so that everything was done right. Everything was working great until last week when I started to get that message at boot up. To clarify---if the WD hard drive is plugged in via USB it freezes at the above screen but does not freeze when the drive is not plugged in which is why I believe it could be an issue with the WD drive. I have checked the WD site and since my external drive was purchased in December of 2008 it has all the latest drivers available according to what I am seeing. I will try leaving the computer on tonight at that screen to see if it is still on that screen tomorrow maybe the scan it is trying to do takes a bit more time than I am allowing. I even tried updating windows and it still is showing that screen.

"HP Pavilion dv6", I'm not sure if you're aware just how many different models of them there are, but take a look here if not - HP Pavilion dv6, and let us know which model it is.

Have you tried using a different port to see if it still occurs, scanned the drive for errors?
