I have one of my computers hooked up to a 42" Plasma TV using an HDMI cable and I play movies mainly on it, but I can surf the web if I need to.
Hi, if you just want to display the PC monitor output then you just need a converter lead from the PC graphic card to match up to the aux or other video signal input to the TV. :)
I can tell you... it depends on,
firstly your TV, is it a HDTV? or a standard TV?
also
your graphics card what make and model is it?
For HD look at the back you will probably need a HDMI cable going to either DVI, VGA or HDMI. Ideally you want a straight HDMI connection for the best quality but that depends on your card.
For SD you want an RGB to VGA cable or RGB to S-Video (like the thing above) again this depends on your tv and graphics card some cards have s-video built in so you could use a straight s-video.
Let me know when you figure out what ports you have if your struggling to choose a cable.

I think your graphics card needs to have Tv-out if u want to connect it to an old CRT tv, or you have to buy some extra converter. Thats why i bought an HD4890 instead of an HD5xxx card because i still have an 32" CRT
