I'd rather buy an H.P than a Gateway system, and I'd never dream of buying a HP, but each to their own. Have a look at some on Newegg, and what you could get for your budget...

The advantages of the Gateway NV7923u compared to your current system -
    Huge, High Definition, screen
    extra 1 gb RAM
Core i5 - Turbo Boost capabilities - The upgrade to this CPU would be very noticeable in performance.

It will be faster, but tremendously so? Not really. that is not at all to say that it is a bad notebook, but the question becomes what is your usage? Keep in mind, Core i5 withstanding, this is still a budget notebook...no dedicated gpu. If the screen size is an issue, and adding blu-ray, so you were "in the market" for another computer anyways, then IMHO it is just fine. I am just saying that aside of screen size or adding blu-ray, there is little that this computer offers that your current one is not well capable of doing, right?

BTW, although I tend to go with HP's, my wife sells Gateways as well as other notebooks, and their track record appears as good as anyone else's...although I do always love the descriptions...<I>"night sky black..."</I>...it's <I>black</I> right??? 'Ya gotta love marketers!
