SFC checks the integrity of System Files, which control the Safely Remove function.

    Hi,

Had this problem as well and had a good look all over the internet. I too did the SFC check but that didn't fix the issue. I found that my Devices and Printers window hanged and never loaded, just sat there with the green bar. So I looked at the potential problems for this hanging again people pointed to SFC again which didn't work as previously mentioned, however at the bottom of this page, a post by Rakesh Narayan Lal, he mentions fixing the Bluetooth service not starting automatically. This may not be the exact problem, as in your bluetooth service may be starting correctly but if your Devices and Printer window hangs then that may be your cause as the eject hardware icon also hangs trying to eject the device. So something may be causing the window to hang!

    Hope this helped!

Yep, that was exactly it Marky thanks. At first I thought it was Windows 7 SP1 that fixed the issue as that is when I noticed it started functioning again. After reading your post, I realize that I was fiddling with Bluetooth in the eeePC when it started functioning again (devices and printers was borked too like you posted).

    Cheers.

Wammo! Fixed it! My original problem was no longer getting the 'safely remove' message, the icon apparently went dead. Then chasing down a solution I found the Printers and Devices search went constipated. I'd have never of thought it was due to Bluetooth services being off. Much thanks.
