    Problem with the DVD Drive

    I've got an Optiarc 7173A DVD drive in good shape in my PC. Some time ago, I've changed the system from Windows XP SP 3 to Windows 7 32bit edition and after that, the drive won't work anymore. I can boot and read files from the BIOS boot system (anyway, I've installed the system from Flash USB drive, but it doesn't matter, the dvd is workin and can read files from the disk's) and my os is readin the drive in the device manager, but somehow, when I instert the disk to it, and tryin to explore it, the hourglass shows on, and nothin happens (just nothin, disk is not oppenin; Also, system shows no error/information message (just loadin and hangs on it 'til I open the drive). I took the DVD to my friends PC and It was workin' perfect (his windows version is exactly the same as mine).

    Nah, I can't diagnose the problem by myself, so I'm askin you for help. Please post any suggestions or theories of the problem, 'coz I hate goin to my friends and ask them for copy every files that I need, from the disk to the Flash Drive.

    Yours,

    Hi.

    Have you had a look to see if there is a firmware update for your drive?

    I agree with FZ21Z, I would check for the firmware update at the sony site. If that doesnt work then i would try this.

    Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

    There are more help files at the end of the article in case this does not fix it. Does it show the DVD drive in device manager?

    @Problem Solved
    I've menaged to solve this problem. One of "pins" was damaged on the motherboards ATA socket, I've repaired it, and not-reading CDs are no problem anymore.

    Anyway, thanks for the advices.
