Windows 7: New monitor recommendations please

New monitor recommendations please

Hi folks.

I'm going to need a monitor for my second pc. This is going in my bedroom and will be used for watching TV/ gaming/ movies etc.
On my main pc I'm using a Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP and I love it to bits but I can't afford another one of those unfortunately.

My limit would be about 250 and I think I'll need a 24" as I'll be viewing it from about 7 feet away.
I imagine my budget would mean a TN panel but if I get it at the right height that should be ok when I'm sat in bed.
Current monitor is 1920x1200. Is there any advantage to having 1920x1080 as there seems to be a lot of those currently?

So basically I'm asking for recommendations. Thanks for listening, John:)

Most of the lesser expensive panels are 1920x1080 that is what HDTV standards are. I've got an Acer that was 23" and was around the $170 mark. It's fine for what it is...but in no way shape or form will compete with that 24" Dell that you have.

Thanks for your reply pp.

I appreciate that it won't be as good as my Dell panel but if I'm only using it primarily for TV/ games/ movies and music etc and viewing it from a distance surely any colour problems or lack of definition shouldn't be as noticeable.
I'll be doing most of my stuff, editing pictures plus all the other stuff I mentioned, on my main pc 90% of the time.

Truth is I built a new pc and can't find a buyer for the old one (not at any kind of decent price).
Most of my friends have low end laptops and are very happy with them. I don't know any other computer geeks who might want to buy a great big quad core box.
Hence the idea of using it as a lazy bedroom pc/tv. I also like the idea of having another pc set up in case of catastrophic failure.

250 equals about $378 at present. Obviously I've been looking at reviews in bewildering numbers and a lot of them are contradictory so I thought I'd post on here and see if I get any personal recommendations. I have a great deal of respect for the people who frequent this forum and the sum of experience they represent so- bang for buck please

monitor recommendations
OK so I'm after a monitor to replace my current 1080p monitors. but there's sooooooo many monitors out there I'm lost in a sea of reviews!! I'm liking the look of the 21:9 screens, but few are great for gaming. plus as they're super wide screen things are on the same scale as a 1080p display but...

Recommendations for NAS
After concluding that I cannot afford an LTO-5 tape backup (who can?) and learning that BDXL Blu-Ray is just too darned tricky, I have settled on the obvious - a NAS. OK, now here's my problem. Every NAS seems to get both positive and negative reviews, the negative ones I believe to be coming...

Want recommendations for HDD monitor software
I have 2 internal and 3 external HDD's that I want to monitor. I have lost HDD's in the past and it has been a terrific PAIN! and while I know that monitoring software wont prevent this altogether, it could help. I have tried a couple but for whatever reason the programs could not read the SMART...
Any recommendations?
I think the last computer game I actually spent hours playing was SimTower or SimFarm...yes, it has been a LONG time. I loved Halo on XBOX but am not really into FPSs and have tried Halo on PC but feel it a little awkward. I'm pretty sure things like World of Warcraft are out of the question...The...
