Need an advice on a new upgrade..

    Hello there,

I've decided to do an upgrade but I'm hesitating between 2 upgrade choices, I'm NOT asking which is better in performance (I've spent a whole week reading reviews already), I'm asking which would be better for future upgrades..

    First upgrade is >>
    Phenom II X2 550 3.1GHz, 7MB Total Cache
    Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5

    And upgrade the processor later??

    Or >>
    Phenom II X4 965 125w 3.4GHz, 8MB Total Cache
    Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P

    And upgrade the MB later??

So yeah, it's a true hardware dilemma ..

If the X2 550 fits your mobo, then that is a good choice. Some people OC'd it to 4GHz.

I know that Phenom II X2 550 BE is good at overclocking, but I'm not really sure whether I would OC or not, at least not for a long while cause after any of both these upgrades I won't be able to buy an aftermarket CPU Cooler.

Both upgrades are a processor and a MB that can run both processors..

I just can't seem to decide..

Should I get a low processor (AKA PII X2 550) along with a high MB (AKA 790FXTA-UD5) and upgrade the processor later on.

Or get a high processor (AKA PII X4 965) along with a low MB (AKA MA770T-UD3P) and upgrade the MB later on.

My choice would be the PII X4 965 with the cheaper MB. I think the PII x4 965 will give you more bang for the buck and the MB's performance is about same. The other MB has extra features that you probably wont be using like USB3 and SATA6gbs. Also these features are not from the MB chip set but are add on chips and tied to the PCI-E buss which could affect the video card you will have on that same buss. Newer MB chip sets will have support for these features and will perform better. Hope this helps.
