Low Windows Experience Index for hard drive

Hi all,

I have a high end PC. Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67ghz (dual core) with 8GB DDR3 running Win7 x64. My disk is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB 7200 rpm drive (ST31000333AS) with 32MB cache connected using SATA 3Gb/s. Specs here: ST31000333AS Barracuda 7200.11 SATA 3Gb/s 1-TB Hard Drive | Seagate

My Windows Experience Index is 7.5 for all categories except for this primary disk drive. The drive only scores 5.9. Considering I think this is a fairly high end system with lots of memory and the cpu power, it seems very odd to me that the drive would score so low - especially compared to the 7.5 scores across the board in the other categories.

Are there any known performance issues with this drive? Or is this score not surprising? Any tips or tricks I can use to speed up the drive and/or troubleshoot this some more to better understand what's slowing it down?

No, HDD's drop out at 5.9. Why did you buy the 11th generation hard drive? Its obsolete.

Heh yeah, with that rig an SSD was rally called for. Would give a score of 7.2-7.3 and would have made your entire system feel amazingly faster too!

A new video card and an SSD alone has revived my 2.5gig dual core to the point that I don't even feel like needing a machine upgrade for a while now.

Can you please explain what you mean by the HDD's "drop out" at 5.9? Do you mean they max out at 5.9? If that's the case, are you saying I should expect to see 5.9 with any drive?

To answer your questions, I didn't purchase this drive recently. It came with my system which I got several months ago.

5.9 is as good as 'old-fashioned' hard-drives go according to wei...

i wouldn't worry about it if your pc feels fast.

if you really need better performance and higher wei numbers, get an ssd as your os/program drive.

The limit of 7.9 is designed to accommodate new hardware - i.e. SSD's.
