    Can't safely remove device

Just yesterday I noticed that when my external Lacie usb drive is running it does not show on the list of attached devices. The device icon shows in the tray, but when I click on it , the usb drive does not show therefore I can't remove it safely. The drive shows up in explorer and I can use it fine. What can I do?

    Hello Victor,

If write-caching is not enabled for that drive, then it may not show up in Safely Remove Hardware since it will not need to be. You might check in Device Manager for that drive's properties to see if it is enabled or disabled.

    Hope this helps some,

Thanks, but write caching is enabled for the drive. The device icon still shows up in the tray and the drive is recognized in explorer. I can still read and write to it, but cannot remove safely because it does not show up when I click on the device icon.

Something else that's odd. When I open up "devices and printers" nothing is listed. All Blank ???

    Victor,

You might consider a repair install then to try and fix these issues without losing anything.
