Tricking windows to think HDD is USB?

Is there a way I can make Windows think that a 10 GB partition on my portable HDD is a USB flash drive. I have a program that restores .img files to a USB flash drive and only a USB (wont work with HDDs). And I cant open or mount the img, as it has some special encoding on it or something. Iv restored it to a USB before so i know the img file is fine.

So can i make it think its a USB or no?

You can try a bit-flipper like here: Removable Media Bit - The CD Forum
