I searched and found some threads where the ? was asked about Hardware profiles and the answers were mostly No and why would you need them? Well, for one-I have only one PC-I use for everything. But, I record audio (my music ) with Sonar Sound forge, etc. It would help if I could have the internal Sound device disabled when I am recording using my DAW interface. But, I guess I cannot since there are no hardware profiles in W7?

I too use Sonar, Producer 8.5.3 and I'm in the same conundrum!
With Win7 I had to purchase a new Audio interface, a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24, as the older Tascam 122 does not, and will not have W7 drivers. The Focusrite uses ASIO drivers exclusivity. The on board mobo RealTek audio uses WDM drivers. And I just got new 5.1 surround sound speakers for this (my first build). Well the drivers don't talk to each other. So yes, I would like different hardware profiles for regular pc use, cd's, youtube etc., and then use the ASIO, Focusrite, Sonar setup to do music.
I'm just finding out that HProfiles is somewhat discontinued, and they want you to set up a VHD with partitions. I would really like to have my OS, and programs on one drive, and the Sonar files on another drive.
So if anyone, or if you figured out an answer to this unique to recording musicians problem, please let me know!

Nope-I haven't figured out a way-with the exception of manually diabling each time.Seems like as we move forward we drift backwards
humm...this is what I've been finding out, that it has to be done manually. So a few questions if you don't mind. Do you disable the sound card drivers, then load sonar with it's ASIO drivers. Or disable/enable the Sonar drivers when you use Sonar? If that is the case, when you are done with Sonar session, you have to change all the drivers back to the soundcards WDM profile? I'm going to experiment, but how you do it will probably be the easiest...Thanks
I haven't recognized a need for different hardware profiles, but I wonder if it could be accomplished by setting up the different hardware configurations in different user accounts? Could this work?
Just a speculative thought...may be worth checking into.
