hard drive transfer?

    hard drive transfer?


    i plan on getting a new hard drive soon and i don't want to start from square one. does windows 7 have a built in transfer wizard for that? probably kind of a noob question, but i can't seem to find anything.

    ehh...that's not really what i'm looking for. i saw in the backup options that you could make a system disc. would that back up my programs and registry and files and everything? i've done backup stuff before, but i forget specifics. i basically want to make an image of my entire computer that i can then unpack on my new hard drive. sounds like system image would do that, no?

    That tutorial is for backing up "programs and registry and files and everything"
    Did you read even read it?

       Information
    This will show you how to create a system image (clone) backup of the entire hard drive or partition that Windows 7 is on, and any other selected drive or partition, to be able to restore the hard drive or partition at boot up back to the way it was at the time the backup image was created.

    oooooh, i see what i did. i didn't really read through that and when i scrolled to the end of the post, i saw something that said "system restoration" and i thought that was it. i didn't realize you linked me to the system image tut lol. cheers :)

    If the drive is a Seagate or WD they both have their own utility that contains a basic version of Arconis True Image, that can be used for exactly what you are looking to do,
