I have found a fix after a day or two i tried to use my remote with wmc and it didn't work so after plodding through loads of post her i found a fix for remote it also fixed my keyboard
    Method:-control panel/administrative tools/services/human inerface device access
click on human interface device access set to automatic and the important bit CLICK START.
cant say how pleased i am to have my remote fully functioning and keyboard

I know this is an old thread but found it from a google search "logitech G510 volume control not working". I registered and just wanted to thank you for posting how you fixed the volume control. I had the same problem and tried for hours to figure it out but had no luck. Your fix did the trick and everything is working properly now. Thank you boohbah, saved me a lot of headaches and time.

Well, I tried the fix above, and that doesn't seem to work for me My computer set up is as follows. I have a Logitech Z906 speaker system, which previously was plugged in to the motherboard using the 6-channel wires. With that, the keyboard would control the volume, however I recently installed a sound card, Creative Soundblaster X-fi Titanium HD, and now the keyboard no longer controls volume I wonder if it has anything to do with my keyboard being plugged in to the usb slot on the top of my computer case, and not in the back? Just a thought, either way, all usb slots connect to the motherboard and not the sound card obviously. I can't find a way to make the keyboard control the sound coming from the sound card
