problem importing pics from digital camera

Win 7 install went fine no issues (none i couldnt sort anyway)

while importing pics from my camera i quite often get the message "the following error occured while importing (pic filename) the file directory is corrupted or unreadable" and im presented with 3 options .. try again .. skip this file .. skip all files with errors..

after choosing try again the file is imported no problem , however if im importing say 50 pics i have to do this every 2 or 3 pics , which can be an enormous pain in the rear

anyone had/solved a similar issue?

the file are not corrupted btw they are fine and its not the camera

are you importing the pics directly from the camera or by using a card reader.
In theory there shouldn't be any difference when using Windows explorer - but using the cameras own software can sometimes cause problems on W7 unless the software has been specifically updated for W7 -- and digital camera makers are fairly slow in updating their drivers.

I've found the best method is to let windows treat the digital camera as an "external hard drive" and copy the pics on a USB2 port via Windows explorer.

That could be several things but I would lean towards the Camera or the USB cable, even if you don't think it is, if you can use other USB devices and they all work OK. Have you tried a different USB port? Have you reformatted the card in the camera? that is another possibility. Some older cameras used a "non-standard" proprietary format for their memory cards and that's another possibility. Do you know someone else with a Win 7 PC that you can try transferring to that PC for testing? Or a different camera to your PC for testing. That will help to isolate where the problem lies - maybe not what the problem is but at least confirm whether it's the camera (and it's USB cable) or the PC.

just plugging the camera in and letting it be used as an external HD , the camera is a good one but its quite old now certainly around along time before win 7

I didnt try formatting the card in win 7 , ive no idea why i didnt think of that , ill give that one a try thanks :) , The card was formatted originally on the camera

I'm having the same problem right now, what happened with this? It's driving me insane!

I haven't tried formatting the card in Win 7, because that would mean removing/replacing about 3000 pictures already on the 16GB card.

I'm using the card reader, that's the strange thing...

i never solved the issue but recently replaced my mobo , ram and CPU so was forced into a full format , reinstall .................. the issue is no longer there , neither is another issue i was having with windows trying to constantly do a disk check/repair on every startup.

After some research the disk check problem (win 7 was constantly reporting the disk as "dirty") error could be down to a bad install , not reformatting the disk properly (which i thought i had) this could also (in my humble opinion) be the reason for the card reading error..............so to cut a long story short it could just be a bad install , either by yourself or the manufacturer
