Nice. My husband has two WD Velociraptor 300GB in his Alienware computer and they are very good so far.
Looking at the benchmark tests though, thats quite a bit of difference in the 600 compared to the 300.

    He will want those now.

The benchmarks themselves say a lot of the new generation of the drive....however I don't really see anything earth shattering between the 3.0Gbps interface and the 6.0Gbps interface. In this case, they were using 2 different makes of controllers which could account for most of that difference (marvell -vs- Intel) measured.

Looking at the burst number on the 600GB drive, it went from 200-270...however 270 is still below the spec of the 3.0Gbps interface...so I don't really see any solid reason why the 3.0Gbps would have choked it back to 200. And we can all see that the remaining speeds are all pretty much the same across the board on the rest of the tests or within a percent.

Exactly! Good eye. Many people have not a clue what they are actually looking at when observing benchmarks. You obviously do. It's a small club.....LOL

The Velociraptors are nice drives, but WAY too rich for my blood. I prefer SeaGate products anyway. Perhaps if I was into gaming, and just hit the lotto I would purchase a Velociraptor....but until then.....

With the right Seagate drive, you can partition the drive so that it acts as a Velociraptor.
