Memory stick heating up + Not appearing in Device Man.

Sandisk memory stick is heating up once I plug it into my laptop. Ive tried on three computers now, its unresponsive on all of them. It wont appear in device manager, so i cant un-install software and reinstall.

Anything I can do?

Sounds like the stick is fried. If it's under warranty, I encourage you to send it in, and get a refund or replacement.

So much coursework that I need from it, its most likely under warranty but I suppose my works gone.

Most likely.

The only other thing you can try is see if the drive is detected in your BIOS. See if it's listed as one of the drives in the popup boot menu.

If it's not even listed in Device Manager, I don't think there's much hope for it though. Even if it's listed in the BIOS, I wouldn't know what to do next.

I will give it a go, I've got a few data recovery programs at the ready, but I can't get them to scan my USB stick as it cannot be found.

What I have noticed though (I have two of the same memory stick) is that the stick that's heating up is harder to insert into the USB port - the end has changed shape slightly? Could possibly be causing problems? If its heating up though the damage has most likely already been done.

You can see if wiggling the drive around helps any, but be careful not to damage your USB port.

No joy, I can just feel it heating up again, going to leave it unplugged now i dont want to damage any parts of my laptop.

I will send it back, and explain to them the problem about my work, thanks anyway.
