Help to buy new CPU

This is what I am looking at only I want Win7 Pro it is a pre built system. help and advice is very much welcomed. This will be used for games as well as graphics and general use. Thank you

If you are looking for speed, get a small 30GB SSD for the OS. That will give you a world of difference. No idea what they cost in NZ, but around here they sell for less than US$100 (e.g. OCZ Vertex 30GB).

I have looked up some prices for SSD here a little costly still. I understand they cut down on noise and heat but doesn't really speed it up. Will look at that later on. I was looking into the Acer Aspire Z5610 with the touchscreen but can only find small hard drives in NZ, plus couldn't find much info on them.

That must be a misunderstanding. In my experience, nothing can speed up your system more than an SSD. E.g. I get a 15 second boot. I am not a great fan of touchscreens. I think it is only a gimmick.

whs my husband works at a mill they use touchscreens to run the plant has done for years. The reason I was looking at them is he is not very computer savy and I thought this option would be better for him. Now I am intersted in anyones point a view of all topics

So, if I have a P4 1.4Ghz, 256MB Ram machine with a 40GB IDE drive, getting a 30GB SSD will speed up the system more than adding 1GB of Ram?

LOL, I was thinking of todays PCs (duo or quad core, 2-4GB of RAM), not some box you borrowed from the Smithsonian museum.

Your CPU is already sufficient for most needs unless you are doing CPU-intensive work such as Video Processing or such, or you can overclock it if you want. But considering that your system is a pre-built, overclocking processors might not be possible. You would need to upgrade your PSU if you want to have another card.

As someone else mentioned above, you might like to get SSD if you want faster boot speed, or else you won't need to spend the extra money on it.

If you want better framerate for gaming, you might want to consider a second GTS250 to run in SLI, if your prebuilt system has another PCIx16 slot for you to run it.
