    DVD-Burner won't read empty discs


    I have an old problem since vista. When i had vista installed on my laptop i inserted an empty dvd disc to burn something and the laptop said it's write protected and can't be used for burning. Now i have Win7 installed on my laptop and the same problem occurrs again. I must say the burner can read already burned DVD's and CD's. It can also burn on CD's.

    Can anyone help ? the spesific model of the burner is:
    Hitachi HTS541680J8SA00 ATA Device.

    Edit: Ya thanks a lot..No one has any idea on solving this problem?

    I had this problem with multiple drives over the years. I just gave up trying to solve and bought a new drive. If anything just make sure the firmware is up to date on the drive.

    Never mind.. just found out that it's a combo drive (can read cd/dvd but can only burn CD's)

Hey SevenForums. Just bought my new computer yesterday. Its a HP Pavilion and i have tried to put in two discs containing games, and the computer just won't read them? It even says there's no disc inserted. Please help!!!

i have an hp 740b and it says it burns dvd+ or - r and cds i have successfully burned over 25 dvd+r but now i bought a pack of dvd-r and it wont read it on image burn it says device not ready (medium not present) and in my computer it doesnt read the dvd-r the dvds are the radioshack brand...
