Fan runs hard for first 5 minutes booted

    Hello,

I have this problem where after I boot to the desktop, a (or several) fans in my laptop start spinning as if a heavy process is occurring. This lasts about 5 minutes. Oddly, the CPUs are both running at about 5-10% and the memory usage is ~400mb which is the stable usage that doesn't change if I leave the laptop on for 2 hours. So, in other words, nothing is happening but the fans are spinning like mad.

I've tested it on several operating systems:

No probem: Ubuntu 9.04, Windows XP

Problem: Ubuntu 9.10+, Windows Vista and Windows 7

This is the model of my laptop.

    Any help would be great,

    Thanks in advance.

If it happens no matter what you boot into, I'd try updating your BIOS. There may be something in there that's messing with your fan settings.

This seems to be the latest version of your BIOS, but you should check for yourself. I had to go to the Vista page to find it.
