Got a new mobo - Intel Matrix Raid problems!
Hi,
First thing I'd like to say is that I'm not a newb who's posting his first ever question here on the site. I had an account here and I guess I haven't logged in for awhile so I was deleted. So I had to create a new account using my old member name.
So here's my latest problem. I hope someone can help.
My old Asus P5GDC Deluxe mobo died. I had 2 500gb drives setup as an Intel Matrix Raid as 2 drives, 1 mirrored, and 1 un-mirrored.
I moved these HDD's into my new system. Now I know that I'm going to have to re-install Windows 7 x64 on them because I've made a really dramatic hardware changes. But before I do a complete new install, I want to move my data off these drives first. So I installed Windows 7 x64 to another drive temporarily so I can copy data over but I can only see half of my Raid set. The other drive which still has data on it is not visible at all in windows. Except in Device Manger, but in disk management it does not show up at all, not even as a foreign disk.
I did a quick Google and several things I read said that I have to install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. So I DL'd the latest IMSM from the Intel site and tried to install it and I get this error msg, "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements". So I did another Google and read that I have to load the Intel Matrix Raid drivers as you're installing windows. But I've read that Win 7 already comes with the ICH10R drivers pre-installed. If it didn't I would'nt be able to see my Raid drives at all during installation, which I can see them. So tried to re-install Win 7 and load the latest ICH10R Raid drivers from Intel. When I get to the screen where I can pick the driver, the little check box on the lower left that says "Hide drivers not compatible with this computers hardware" is checked, and I don't see any drivers at all in the list. If I uncheck this box, I see a whole slew of drivers.
So I figured I would go ahead and try and pick ICH10R driver listed and force the issue. After it loads the driver and brings me back to the page where I can pick the drive I want to install Win 7 to and it says "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. (Show Details)". When I click on show details it says "Windows is unable to install to the selected location. Error: 0x80300001". It says this for every drive I have installed in my computer, not just the raid sets. I've even tried the DVD-Rom that came with my mobo and if the check box is checked it doesn't even show the drivers that are supposed to be compatible with the mobo. Pretty silly, huh?
Sorry this is so long.
Thanks for reading,
Matt
