Do you guys think deleting the upper and lower filters will resolve this?

electrotune, I've been into the Regedit and deleted what was there of the upper & lower filters (only one lowerfilter) and that made no difference.

Not to worry now. I opened up the laptop and re-installed the DVD-ROM. Fixed the problem straight away.

Thanks to everyone for your help anyway, it is greatly appreciated. I'll be coming back here for any future problems (and if not to help out myself) as you were all great.

    Thanks a bunch.
