Ok, John-here is what I suggest you do:
- Close all applications down.
- Go to your device manager.
- Click over your optical drive.
- Touch your right side of your mouse.
- You will see a dropdown menu.
- You will see uninstall, left click it and un-install your optical drive.
- After it has competed the operation, reboot your system.
- Since this drive is a "Plug and Play " device Windows 7 will detect it and install it as new hardware.
- Follow the promp that says it will Install automatically.
- At completion reboot.
Try a burn and report back your results.
