    2.5 HDD WD5000BEVT not recognized

    Hi,

I got a WD 500 GB hardrive which is not being recognized on my system or any other ( my a Win 7 Desktop and 2 other Win Xp Sp3)

When the WD5000BEVT is being connected a workstation it gets detected and the appropriate drivers are installed( for the sata controler and for the HDD) . After the drive is installed the system does not see it( however the HDD is recognized in the management panel as an non portioned drive)

I had been thinking that it might have been a damaged sata controler and have replaced it with a new one which is working on another hdd. No luck , the HDD is not being recognized on the system.

Then i thought i would run MHDD to verify if the HDD is damaged , however, its not being recognized in MHDD.But is in the System

    So here a my thoughts:

    1. Should i put on jumpers on the hdd ? if yes on what combination ?

    1 & 2 , 2&3 or 3& 4 ?

    2. another software or methods i should try ?

please let me know if you need any additional information

Sounds like a bad drive. I looked up WD5000BEVT. This is a laptop drive that runs at 5400.
Replace it with Western Digital - Scorpio 320GB WD3200KTRTL 16mb cache, 7200 RPM. You can buy it at best buy for $70.

Buy yourself a new 1TB Seagate 3.5" HD drive for $50 and quit playing around.

    guys,

altough those ideas also crossed my mind right now i must try everything that is possible to actually make the drive work. Therefore i need to know how to determine that the drive is broken ( screen shot of lots of bad drives) etc.

if you can help me with this i would be very thankful

Is there data you need on the drive? If the bios can't recognize the drive your out of luck. I hope you have backup(s). You might have a chance if you can find another drive that was made in the same batch and swap out the board. And it's too expensive to have data recovery.

However you said the system does see it. Get a copy of Zero Assumption Recovery. I've done this on a drive once where the data was there but the system could not see it.

Is it actually spinning up? .. just touch it with your fingertips , if it's spinning you'll notice the slight vibration!
