Georgio, the answer is generally yes, but it will depend on what your motherboard can accept. Maybe you can't upgrade from where you are, if your motherboard won't take it.

Download and run SIW, it will tell you what your motherboard is so we can check what you can upgrade to

Since you have a Gigabyte MB that uses DDR3, it's almost 100% you can upgrade your CPU, but as wallyinnc suggested, if we know your MB, we can tell what socket it uses, and what CPU's you could choose from. A Guy

As long as it is a real Gigabyte board, and not an OEM version made to Acer's specs,

If it is a real one I agree with you it is 100% possible to upgrade the CPU, board and bios support willing.

If it is an OEM version made for Acer then the changes fall way off (close to zero) as they and all other system builders (Dell, HP, etc) like to not only lock the bios against overclocking and some of those other features that those of us that build our own take for granted, they also like to restrict the bios to not much more in the way of CPU support than the one that the computer shipped with. They would rather sell you a new computer than allow you to upgrade the CPU.

Oh yes, that is so true. I have an HP with an older Athlon X2 in it at work, and the CPU died. I had a newer Athlon in the shop to replace it. No way. The BIOS freaked out, and it did nothing but beep.

I can order a replacement from HP for a really absurd price, or I can search around online and in the classifieds to try to find the exact CPU that blew up.

Or I can bring in my sledgehammer from home...

    hi ..
    like wallyinnc says,
It's depend from compatibility of the motherboard with processor it self.
choose processor that have same pin configuration.

yes you can, depends on your mobo. and basically when you update one component in your PC,others may need to follow so they can"get along" i'd say. :)
