To the top right of this post you will see 3 icons. An orange (+), a set of scales and a red and white warning triangle.

The orange (+) or blue (-) denotes whether a user is on or offline (orange = on, blue = off).

The scales are used to give rep points; click this button if someone has helped you significantly or solved your queries (only give this to posts that you think really deserve it).

The red and white warning triangle is used to denote either an abusive post OR to mark a thread as solved (just put solved in the box that comes up and the admins or moderators will mark it solved).

I hope you find this helpful and I will mark the thread solved.

Hi, Oli. Perhaps you might know the answer to my question?? I've been searching for weeks on my PC and online for an answer to no avail, so I can't use my printer with my laptop. Where can I find the block "enable bilateral communications?" I keep getting an error message when I try to print telling me to check this block. In researching where this block can be found in Win 7 Home Premium, I've found it should be located in the printer properties, but this block isn't located in the printer properties in Windows 7 and I can't find it elsewhere in order to check the block. Some background...I have an EMachines (Acer) E725 laptop that I have connected wirelessly via a router. I have a Lexmark 2470 all-in-one printer and I've successfully downloaded and installed the Win 7 print driver for my printer. I can print a test page with my laptop, but when I try to print anything else, I get the above error message (enable bilateral communications). I'm going crazy trying to resolve this issue so I can print from my laptop! Thanks in advance for your help. This is the first time I've used this forum, so I apologize if I haven't posted this question properly.

Have a look at Trying to fix my Lexmark X2470 printing problems in Windows 7.

I thought this might be a port problem, and according to this it is.

Follow the steps given in the second post and see what happens.

Many thanks, Oli! The post in that Forum was one of my attempts to seek help. Here's an excerpt of my reply to the solution provided in case anyone here has the same issue.

I finally found the "enable biDIRECTIONAL SUPPORT" block to check! My fault...I wasn't reading thoroughly. After I right-clicked on the printer in "devices and printers," the drop-down menu that comes up has 2 "properties" lines. One simply reads "properties" at the bottom of the drop-down menu. This is the "properties" line that I'm most familiar with, so I just clicked on that line without reading the other choices in the drop-down menu. My bad! The other line, about half way down the drop-down menu, reads "printer properties." I was selecting the wrong line in the drop-down menu. Once I selected the "printer properties" line, I found the "ports" tab. Near the bottom of the "ports" tab is the block "enable biDIRECTIONAL SUPPORT," not "enable bilateral communications." I'll let you know if I'm able to print or I'll contact Lexmark directly, depending on what happens.
