my printer doesn't work on seven?

First of all what make and model is your printer, this is quite important .

Secondly how did you install it, Windows Printer installer or a dedicated installer?

Follow the instructions at Install the Software on how to install you printer correctly.

Before you do however perform a system restore to before you installed your printer (System Restore).

The driver provided on Windows Update is not a complete driver and thus doesn't work very well (or at all) so the one on the disk should be used; it is bad practice to rely on Windows update for drivers because the drivers are often incomplete or out of date.

Good job Oli!
I was too slow to respond to his need for help with Canon Printer.
Had to use your outlined method from Canon when installing Win7 and my Canon Printer.

No problem guys; I have a lot of experience with printer installations, it's a big part of my job, and you guys are lucky because it usually costs people £20/$30 an hour for me to fix their printer issues (I am one of those dawdling tech support guys, yes ).
