    keyboard problem

G'day not sure if this is the right place for this, if not please move it.
I have a problem that I have been trying to fix ever since I installed windows 7 last year.
When i press the tilde key(`) nothing happens, however as soon as I press another key the ` shows up
eg if I press tilde nothing shows up but if the next key I press is 1 I get `1
The same thing happens with my quotation mark key/inverted commas ( ' )
Press it once and nothing happens but as soon a I press another key it comes up.
Its the same for these two keys if I hold shift down too ( ~ and " )
If the press either key 2 times I get both keystrokes
eg tilde pressed 2 times gives ``
    Every other key words fine.
I have windows 7 64bit installed, with a logitech wireless keyboard.
I have installed windows 7 on 3 other computers(two are 64 bit and the other 32bit) for friends and they have the same problem, two are using logitech keyboards and the other is a HP keyboard.
Its a real pain when your typing and you look back and your inverted commas are in the wrong place or not there at all.

Hope you can understand what I mean.
Thanks for your time and hopefully someone knows how to fix this.

    Cheers
    Peter

You said you installed it, did you use the same disk? It sounds like it might be a buggy disk, but it is odd it is happening on all of them.

Perhaps you could try updating the generic keyboard driver and/or the specific keyboard driver.

    Thanks for the reply mate.
No every computer has it own install disc, one was even a brand new pc with windows pre-installed (i just set it all up for him)

I have tried updating the keyboard driver with no luck.
I will try it again just to make sure as i haven't done that for a few months
    thanks once again,
    cheers

That is REALLY weird. I cannot think of anything that would cause that.

Unless there is a program you installed on all of them.

thanks mate just read it now.

Acute ( ´ ) and grave ( ` ) are diacritical marks, often called accents. (Diacritic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

They are not supposed to appear alone, which is why normal keyboard layouts wait another character to be pressed before producing said character (most often a vocal) together with acute or grave. Pressing acute or grave should also produce nothing, print nothing to screen before another character is typed.

An example: pressing letter e produces letter e. Pressing first acute ( ´ ) produces nothing, shows nothing on screen. But pressing thereafter letter e produces é. To get à, you have to press grave ( ` ) and thereafter a.

I have never had that happen to me on windows xp or 98 over the years, pressing tilde always gave me a `
tried changing the keyboard layout again, but still the same.
I can live with tilde key but the inverted comma key is a real pain, I use it a bit.

You could try English (United States) - US, I think I've heard about similar issue disappearing when using this layout.
