No, but....

I've been using Western Digital hard drives since getting into computers in 1998. In fact I've never owned anything but WD hard drives (from 4.3gig to 1TB). In all my years of using them I've only had 2 go bad, though they never "completely" failed. This speaks of Western Digital's consistency in reliability. Windows 10 Pro/ Windows 10 Pro Insider

The WD1002FAEX works well in my WIN 7 Pro. It is a little noisy but that is the way they were made according to WD. Of course if I had to do it over again I would buy the Samsung HD103SJ. I have two of them in external enclosures. From an external enclosure the spinpoints will match as much as the WD can put out. Thats not saying much for the SATA III. I have always thought if I put the Spinpoints inside the box, they would be faster. But, the WD does thrash a little. But why worry, they have a 5 year warranty.

Hi Guys,

I realise it has been 5 years since someone has commented on this thread but this is urgent! The following Western Digital drives have had a firmware issue since they were released from the factory:
  • WD1002FAEX-00Y9A0
  • WD7502AAEX-00Y9A0
  • WD6402AAEX-00Y9A0
  • WD5002AAEX-00Y9A0
  • WD5002AAEX-32Y9A0
I have the WD1002FAEX-00Y9A0 so this is how I found out about the issue.

I have issued instructions on a fix for the firmware on my latest thread (Which is where I came across this issue)

Hopefully this may help you guys.

WD Caviar Black noisy?
I purchased two WD Caviar Black drives a few months ago, at the time I had a 32-Bit version of Windows 7 (7100) installed, and the machine was quieter than quiet. Since installing my 64-Bit RTM it seems like the drives "clicks" at lot now when it is "working" ... what could cause that? I know...
