Do HD speeds affect performance?
Hi there,
I wonder if anyone on this forum might be able to throw some light onto; or offer some advice on this issue:
The HD (Samsung HS06TBH 60gb spindle speed 4200rpm) on my netbook (Apricot Picobook, VIA C7-M 12000mhz, 1 GB(Max) ram) died a while back, (it was running XP pro) as the OEM drive was a bit pricey a got a good deal on a used ex iPod Samsung HS081HA 80gb spindle speed 3600rpm),
Fitted the new drive, formatted etc, loaded Windows 7 ultimate, loaded OK, no issues found in the device manager, defraged, so should all be OK.
However it ran painfully slow, much slower than the old XP Build, so slow in fact that I’ve reloaded XP onto this new 3600rpm drive, which I must add is also running slow in comparison to the old XP build on the old 4200rpm drive.
Now do you think this is this down to the use of a slower HD drive, and do I have to go back to a 4200rpm drive to get the most out of windows 7.
Regards
