New Rig, No Video

Hey everyone.

Just built a system:

CPU = Intel i7 930

Board = ASUS P6X58D-E

Video card = ASUS EN9500GT/DI/1GD2/V2 1GB

RAM = OCZ PC3-12800 triple-channel memory

PSU = OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI Ready


I've followed all manuals.

When I start it up, there is no video. No beeps. The fans run, the onboard lights on the MOBO light.

Everything on the inside seems to be working, but a blank screen.

No beeps, no image on the monitor.

Anyone know what could be the problem/solution?

Can you boot into safe mode (F8)?

do you have the win 7 dvd to do a re-install?

It's actually a fresh build. Never had windows. When I push the power button the fans run, the mobo lights up everything seems fine except no image on the monitor.

The Mobo manual states that a beep should occur if the video card is detected but never heard one.

It is a PCI 2.0. It spins up and shows no reason to think it's not working.

I've been panicking lol.

Could it be not enough power?

It is a 550W PSU. The Power calculator on ASUS site says my minimum for the CPU, DVD, RAM, ETC is 450.

Too little?

First I'd double check all the connections, especially the front block panel, then I'd try taking 2 sticks of RAM out and see if she boots?

A 550 watt PSU is sufficient; you have no worries there.

I took 2 RAM sticks out, leaving 1 and it still doesn't show. The monitor light remains orange.

What is the block panel? I checked all my power connections. Made sure both the 24 pin and 8 pin (EATX) were connected too.

The front block panel is # 17 on the list here: PERFORM THESE STEPS before posting about boot/no video problems! - New-System-Build - Homebuilt-Systems. Btw, did you go through this list and try all the suggestions?

Your Asus board comes with a little doohicky I like to call a, "front block panel block"... wordy for sure, but it sure beats jamming your hand into the narrow space between the bottom of your board and the case... all the while holding a flashlight in your teeth, or worse, wearing a miner type headstrap flashlight (yeah I got one, lol).

It's the white plastic piece next to the blue (i forgot what they're calling it?) They say that polarity doesn't matter with the power and reset switch, but, just so you know, there's a triangle on the opposite side which denotes positive. I always like to get them right... but I'm just anal like that.

Can you test the card and PSU out on another machine? The speaker is in too, right?

I'd pull the motherboard out and check the system out of the case.

I'm not quite sure which piece in the photos you are describing.

I thought I had. But there seems to be no wire with the board or my case for it. It is the only set of pins without a connector on it currently.

EDIT: My video card has an S/PDIF connection to the board. That is how I currently have it. I'll check again to make sure that is connected correctly.

Also, I believe that the DRAM LED is constantly on and that alerts to a memory issue. I think I read someone had to use the "MEM-OK" button on the board which "tunes" the memory. Someone said that the BIOS and memory are not always in sync out of the box.
