A question about my keyboard config.

I just finished reinstalling Windows 7 on my Dell Inspirion 17,( Shop for Home and Home Office | Delland I'm missing some options that Dell had put on my laptop before it was sent out. How do I turn on the hot keys that replace the function keys?

Like F7 is supposed to mute the volume, F8 increases sound, F9 decreases etc. I'm having a hard time finding the option to enable it.

Also, could you guys suggest some tweaks and programs that may have been installed before and I'm missing now, everything was set up and ready to go out of the box. I need to figure out how to get my mcafree subscription back and a bunch of garbage, thanks in advance and I apologize if this sounds too vague.

    Welcome to the forum,

You can see if there is a fix for your function keys here,

Dell Technical Support Home Page / Dell Troubleshooting Search

I'm not sure about your programs. You should be able to download McAfee again
    if you have a subscription.

Try finding a Windows 7 driver for you hotkeys or keyboard on Dell's site. If you can't find Windows 7 Driver, try the Vista driver. Dell is really slow in giving drivers for an upgraded OS. I think they think they still own the machine even though you paid for it.

Hey I've got it figured now! I found the steup manual stashed in my book case, they refer to the key's as "Media Control's" and you configure them through the Windows Mobility Center, or you can do it through the BIOS at boot up, just to let everyone know. Thanks for the help though
