    Intel X25M 160GB SSD Problem

Hi all, first post of many

I have a problem with an Intel X25M 160GB SSD Drive.

Windows is constantly telling me that its full. All the Programs i have on the drive is Win 7 ultimate 64 and MSQL Software.

    Hardware:
    Intel i7 980x @ 4.13GHz
    12GB Kingston DDRIII 1333
    Gigabyte GA-X58-UD5
    Intel X25M 160GB SSD
    Liteon SATA DVD R/W
8500GS Nvidia PCI/E - Please dont laugh, PC is not used for graphics
    Win 7 Ultimate 64

Firmware is the latest on SSD by the way.

I have also installed the Intel SSD Toolbox v1.3 and it detects that i have a SSD installed but wont let me use any of the buttons or options in the program except the Refresh button and the Exit Button. I tried uninstalling intel toolbox and reinstalling. Same prob.

I have heard of TRIM but its obviously not working as it should be.

Last night Windows told me that the SSD only had 37mb in free space, then this morning, it had 775mb free space. After using PC for 10 Mins, i had under 500mb in free space. Im desperate for answers ppl, please help.

    Cheers

Isn't MSQL a database application (excuse my ignorance )? If so, couldn't your space usage problem(s) be directly associated to the database in use?

you can check your resource monitor for any disk writes and see what files are being created/modified and which processes are doing the work.

run this in cmd as admin:

    fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

if the result is 0 then trim is enabled

yeah i already ran that and it did return a 0 value. As for resource monitor, im pretty sure everything looks ok.

I have a 2nd machine with the exact same Specs except its running a standard SATA 3.5 HDD. Exact same Windows and Apps installed. It doesnt have this problem.

Have you check the Restore points size limits?
Can't imagine it being that large though.
    Page file?

Did you do a fresh install on the new SSD?
Have you changed any settings after the OS install?
If yes, what did you change?

Yeah its a fresh install on SSD. Page file is definately not taking up the better part of 145GB in space and system restore is turned off. Cleaned out hibernation files etc. This is a major problem at the mo. The Intel Toolbox can see the drive but i cant click on any of the optimization or utility buttons to the left as they are greyed out. The drive gets down to about 60mb in size and then i can check it an hour later and it tells me that there is 970mb available. Thats about as far as it goes.

    HLEP HELP HELP!!!!

Can you give us as much info as you possible for all the settings you have changed since installation of win7 and the drivers your using?

    IDE or SATA?
    What Driver?
    System restore settings?
    Page file settings?
    Hibernation and sleep settings?

With some info maybe some of the members here can give some suggestions.

Dave, It is a SATA Drive. System restore has been turned off as has Hibernation. I have checked the size of the page file numerous times but it is only small. One thing i might add is the fact that i enabled AHCI in the bios aafter Windows 7 was installed. Will this make any diffrence or be the cause to the problem?

AHCI won't write anything to your SSD.

Try uninstalling MSQL and see if that makes a difference, even if it's not setup yet.
Then any other software that you have installed until you've checked them all.
