    A good printer would be?

    Hi all,

Im looking for a good printer that doesn't waste ink, is high in resolution (prints details well) and black and white. So i don't need it for professional things. I just need to print text and a couple of simple pictures that's all. By the way, i think i should be looking for a laser printer right? So what model, what brand do you recommend?

Depends how much you want to spend. I personally choose Canon printers myself

I would also recommend Canon. Any model that fits your criteria should be pretty good, I have two different models and both work great. I used to have two HP printers and both were horrible...

You can get a good Canon all-in-one for a pretty good price if you search and I would never switch to another brand having experienced them all, Canon beats them hands down for performance, reliability and cheapness of operation, inks etc. They have pretty high resolution printing so a laser printer may not really be necessary.
My current MX300 was bought new on eBay.

I have a Canon MP830 all in one and an old hp deskjet 6122 and love them both.
    So the question is:
    1. How much quality printing do you do? Like pictures and Layouts that require quality work
    2. How often do you use or will use your printer?

The each color cartridge for Canon contain 5ml of ink except the black which is 10-15ml's
I use my old hp for quick drafts of photo's and document work and the Canon for quality photo's and layouts and T-shirt making.
Shop around as printer's are cheap but it's the replacing of ink that get costly. I get my ink refills on line at a huge discount so I can save money.
Good luck and let us know what you have purchased.

I agree with all the posters who recommend Canon, I also have an MP 830 and it is a work horse and since I take a lot of digital images with my dSLR camera's it helps me a lot by having a built in media reader and the ability to add photo paper in the second paper feeder w/o having to swap paper in the primary feeder tray.

HP laserjet if you are mainly printing text and black and white pictures.
HP Color Laserjet if you print mainly text and simple color pictures.
Canon or Epson Inkjet if you plan on printing photo quality pictures.

I have all of the above and use them the way I described above.
    HP Color Laserjet 4500DN
    Pros: sharp text
Cons: $500 for a full Toner Set

    HP P1006 mono Laserjet
    Pros: fast and sharp text
    Cons: no color

    Epson 1280 Wide Format Inkjet
    Pros: high detail color photos
Cons: wastes ink if you don't use it often due to cleaning the print heads.

    Kodak 8500 Dye Sublimation Printer
Pros: Photo quality prints that is water proof
Cons: this model only has Windows XP printing support
