Win7 64 bit DVD Read issues

I too have your problem, but i am not using XP mode.
The Icon for the D Drive is listed and can eject the disk, but doesnt recognize any disk.
then will reboot into safe mode and it works fine, then i reboot back into regular mode and it works until i shut down the PC, then next time it wont work unless i go back into safe mode.
I am a tech, This is a brand new PC and have reformatted, Changed the SATA DVD Drive twice to 2 different brands.
I am sure this is a Win7 bug, any help would be greatly appreciated

I am NOT, repeat NOT, overly knowledgeable about this. However, as I tried numerous web searches for trick the two that kept appearing were the following. Neither worked for me but you might consider them for your proble. Note - the Delete upper filters trick is listed here (from a Microsoft tech bulletin) as for Vista - I have seen the same idea for Win7. The UpperFilters command is installed (or at least needed by iTunes).

link to fix ideas: Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

    Best luck,
