One thing that doesn't matter much today, but I have actually seen a huge performance boost from, which surprised the hell out of me. Faster Refresh Rated Monitor, believe it or not.
Meaning? Most LCD's (TFT Panels) have a standard refresh rate of about 60HZ, however...

    Liquid crystal displays

Much of the discussion of refresh rate does not apply to the liquid crystal portion of an LCD monitor. This is because while a CRT monitor uses the same mechanism for both illumination and imaging, LCDs employ a separate backlight to illuminate the image being portrayed by the LCD's liquid crystal shutters. The shutters themselves do not have a "refresh rate" as such due to the fact that they always stay at whatever opacity they were last instructed to continuously, and do not become more or less transparent until instructed to produce a different opacity. Most of the TFT LCDs used in portable devices and computer monitors need a continuous refresh. The driving voltage determines the transmittance of the liquid crystal.
Meaning this has nothing to do with speed, but rather image. Source - Refresh rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Now if we're talking Response Time - that too is more about image than "speed".

Response time is the amount of time a pixel in an LCD monitor takes to go from black to white and back to black again. It is measured in milliseconds (ms). Lower numbers mean faster transitions and therefore fewer visible image artifacts.

At any rate this would be a totally different discussion for another thread. I'm Just curious how this relates to a faster system though.

Well if you want to get technical about it.. fine.

It was just an old observation that I recalled from some years ago that astonished me at the time. :)

I was just using the "technical" information available to discern from you the reason you made your statement.

    Sorry

Would that be "CRT" refresh rates??? :)

    I was kidding.

Well,, some CRTs do have better refresh rates than others. And that can make a difference to Painting the screen, which can appear (or actually) result in a performance boost. I think my specific example went from a junk CRT to a better one to an LCD with a high refresh rate (120hz). So, the jumps were dramatic enough to be noticeable. The largest majority of people today due use LCD's so the jump would not be as significant when going from 75hz to 120hz. But from a CRT to a 120hz LCD is noticeable.

Yeah. I was sooooo happy when I replaced my old CRT monitor with my current HP LCD monitor. Now i'm researching a new monitor as I need somtheing more "color" friendly for my photography. That's why refesh & response times was on my brain when I read your post. :)

At any rate I wasn't trying to be so snooty. It's all good

And now I we return you to your regulary scheduled on-topic post
