    Middle Mouse Button Copy

I'm used to highlighting a sting and copying it with the middle mouse button. I notice this doesn't work with W7. Don't know if this ever worked with Windows. At any rate, does anyone know how to enable this feature?

My mouse is a LogicTech MX500.

    Thanks,
    Burt

Hello Burt, and welcome to Seven Forums.

After you double click on your mouse's SetPoint settings icon in the taskbar notification area, you can select to have the middle button to use the Copy option.

    Hope this helps,

    Brink,
I tried to update the drivers from the LogiTech site but I got a system message saying the software was not compatible with my system. W7 sees my mouse as a PS/2 device. Do you know what other mouse driver I could use?

    Thanks,
    Burt

    Burt,

After looking at Logitech, it appears that Logitech does not have an available driver for Windows 7 or Vista to download for your MX500 mouse. You will only use the default drivers that Windows 7 installs for it instead.

You may not be able to set the middle button like above, but open the Control Panel (Icons view) and click on the Mouse icon. Check through each tab in Mouse Properties to see if you might have an option to be able set the middle button to Copy.

Like Brink says Logitech aren't supporting the MX500 anymore. But you could always try a freeware 3rd party app like Xmouse Button control

It lets you assign key strokes etc. to your mouse buttons

That is a good link, and you might have some luck with that. As has been stated, it would appear that your current mouse is no longer being supported by Logitech, at least for Vista and Windows 7. If you are thinking of replacing it, perhaps have a look at some of our System Specs to see what users here use. I myself use a Microsoft keyboard and mouse, but if you want Logitech, then Shawn's (Brink's) choice is as good as any.

    Nice program link Nick. :)

Burt, if you do not have a option for this in Mouse Properties, then it looks like the program Nick linked may be able to work for you instead.

My mouse is wired and my actual and virtual desktops are becoming more cluttered. Perhaps, it is time for a new KB and mouse. If any want to suggest, I'm all ears...er...eyes.

    Wireless, that is...

    Thanks,

What kinda stuff do you like doing ? ie. graphics, gaming or just general every day to day stuff.
Also what kinda budget are you looking at ?

Personally I'm a logitech fan, but microsoft have some good options available aswell. but if you could steer us in the right direction I'm sure we could give you a few models that might suit your needs

Main use is video editing with Sony Vegas Platinum. I can't see spending more then $200 but would prefer less then that. I need a very responsive mouse. Don't play games as I usually get killed with 5 seconds of entering even chicken death matches. Outside of editing, I view a lot of videos.

I'll probably get into overclocking but that's not a life long ambition.
