Connect wirelessly to router connected Hard drive

Windows 7 HP Compaq 615, Belkin N+ Router, Freecom 500gb NTFS HDD

I am trying to make a wireless connection to my external hard drive which is attached via USB to my Belkin N+ router. I use the router as the default gateway to the internet and have used the ping command to check I can send to and receive from the router. So far my laptop is not recognising the hdd even though my son on a Mac has had no problem in connecting to it. All offers of help gratefully received.

I own a Belkin N+ and have a WD 320 HDD attached to it. On the Belkin CD is a software package called Belkin Storage Manager which must be loaded on any PC wishing to gain access to the drive attached to the router, it lists the drive as Z:On Belkin N+ unless you give it a name then it will be Z:the name you gave it on Belkin N+. The reason your son's MAC see's it is the MAC finds everything attached to the IP and it essentially is attached to your router's IP table.

When you boot into Windows 7 it should mount your drive and show the letter of it in a ballon in the startup taskbar region (generally under the hidden icons there). Mine simply labeled it Z:Network Bamboo on Belkin N+ because all my hard drives are named after bamboo in one way or another, all 3 of my PC's see it when they boot into Windows 7 at Computer. Did not have to do anything special.

The only icon I have in the system tray is the Belkin Storage Manager icon. There are no other related icons. I have rebooted the laptop and tried changing other settings like switching my home network to a work network. All to no avail.
