    My Book World Edition 1

my dad installed this on our network and i tried to access it. automatically, windows 7 tried to install the driver for it so that, obviously, it would work. but, it said something like "installation failed. more parts may be required" or something similar. so i decided to forget it. now, whenever i try to put my comp to sleep or shut it down or restart, it doesnt work, it just says "shutting down" or just a black screen for almost 15 minutes, then goes to a blue screen saying that one or more drivers have installed incorrectly and that something is wrong and stuff like that.

any help would be appreciated...thanks :/

i tried doing the system restore and it didn't work...it just says "preparing to restore your system" and just gets stuck there...last night i tried this and then left my computer after about 30 minutes. i came back this morning and the system wasn't restored to the point i chose, and i think the auto shut off got triggered, and because i cannot turn my computer off, it turned itself back on as if i had never done anything...
thanks a lot, but i think i need to do something else...any other help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Two ideas I can think of:

A system recovery/reinstall os (drastic: used as a last resort)

    or

    uninstall the offending drivers:

BTW: how did you attempt to access the My Book? WD has specific software to correctly install the device called WD Discovery. Manually mapping the drive may lead to trouble since the MY Book uses a linux-based firmware to work. Does the drive have a white light or blue rings?
White light => WD Support > Downloads > Network Storage > My Book World Edition (white light)
blue light=> WD Support > Downloads > Legacy External > My Book Office Edition
    WD Anywhere Access
or try upbove software (not sure if work in older model)

Try doing a System Restore from Safe Mode:

Boot to safe mode, usually press F8 button repeatedly after bios screen and before windows boots.

Choose Safe Mode With Command Prompt.

    Type in

    rstrui.exe

    Press enter.

This should get you into System Restore and you can try again.
