    HD going south

    Good Morning All,
Not sure ware to post this question. (My first post)
My HD on my new HP computer is going bad.
HP is sending an in home repair person to replace it
in the morning. My question: I have to sent
the old HD back to HP. How do I remove all the
    data on it?
    Thanks,
    Barry

Backup the stuff you want to preserve to an external hdd or dvds or flash drive. Then wipe the disk with DBAN.

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/dban/

    Heres a tutorial on DBAN.

You can also go to your hard drive manufacturer's web site and download their disk utility package. Such packages nearly always include software that can write zeroes to a hard drive.
