Vaio VGN-CR520 Webcam problems

Hey guys,

So I just fresh installed Windows Professional x64 on my Vaio laptop, got an extra gb of ram so I wanted to take advantage of all 4 gbs.

I got everything running smoothly, Sony even has all the win7 x64 drivers, however I am having problems getting my webcam to work properly.

At first I wasn't sure if it was a hardware connection problem, but in the Device manager I have something called a USB Video Device under Imaging devices, I thought maybe this was there by default so I uninstalled it. After uninstalling, I could not find any devices that were unrecognized with the yellow warning sign.

The Sony site does not have a win7 x64 driver for the webcam, but I tried the vista home premium driver, but it still didn't work.

I did a restart, and oddly enough a new piece of hardware was detected and was being installed, and lo and behold, it was the USB Video Device.

I have no other devices attached, so am I correct to assume that it was the webcam that was detected? And is it also safe to assume that since it did that hardware install after I restarted that there are no hardware connectivity issues?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

*I also tried various programs such as Windows Live Messenger, Debut Video Capture, Arcsoft Webcam Companion (default software from Sony)... none of these detected a webcam

Windows 7

I've been having the same issue with my VGN-NW120D. I did an upgrade to Windows 7 x64 a couple months ago and in the last few days my webcam hasn't been working with any of my applications (Webcam Companion 2, MSN, Skype, etc.)

Mine is showing up as an Unkown Device with the yellow warning sign, and when I ran a troubleshoot on it, I get Code 43 - it's been stopped because it has reported problems (it also says the drivers are up-to-date). However, like you, I'm doubtful there are hardware connection problems because it's worked just fine intermittently over the past few days.

I don't want to take away from your problem since I already have mine on its own thread - I just figured two heads would be better than one since you don't seem to be getting any help here.
