Cannot install Belkin USB Wifi drivers on Windows

Hi i have recently purchased a Belkin Surf+ B300 F7D2101ed and i'm not able to install it on my Windows 7 (32bit) Pro system. I've only just installed Windows 7 so its a fresh installation.
I install the software included and i keep getting a pop up balloon saying that the driver has not installed properly.
I have tried going into the Device manager and the device is listed under network controllers, but not but not as the device name but "Connect USB Wireless" (or something allong those lines).
I have then tried to manually update the driver and specifying the CD drive to look for driver. It sees the driver, attempts to install it and then i get a screen saying that the driver did not install properly as it could not find the file specified.

I have also tried downloading the latest install program from the Belkin website, but still cannot get the device to work.

Does anyone know how i install this device?

    Thanks

Is the driver win 7? Is the device win 7 compatible? If there is no win 7 driver you can use the vista driver if you install it in compatibility mode.

To do that right click the installer>properties>compatibility>choose OS.

Let us know if this doesnt help

hi bobtastic, and welcome to sevenforums,

i'm not sure if this will work or not, but it's worth a try:

uninstall what you already have, either through control panel or delete from device manager.

reboot and right-click on the installer program, and goto the compatibility tab. try changing the mode to one of the vista options, and then run it again.

let us know how you got on, and we'll try plan B if necessary. :)

    *edit* ken got there first!

Hi Ken, thanks for getting back to me. The driver is for windows 7 and according to the box it is win 7 compatable.

I had a built a motherboard with built in wifi (ASUS P5N32 Sli Premium), for which i used an XP driver which installed, but whenever i tried to connect to my router it wouldn't connect even though the card could see the router and the passcode was correct.
So i bought an new motherboard (another ASUS but can't remember the model) which had no built in wifi so I bought a Mimo Wireless PCI card, which i was told was win 7 compatable and had a similar problem, only that driver for that which was an XP one did install, but i could not find the device under network connections.

Windows 7 is proving very troublesome so far....

are you sure you've got the right drivers?

32bit drivers won't work in a 64bit system, and vice versa.

Yeah i sure i have the right driver, i can see 2 for the windows 7 folder, one named win7x64 and the other win7x86.
I have tried to let windows 7 choose the driver and i get the message as in my opening post. I have tried specifically choosing the win7x86 same result. I've tried the new driver which states its for win7, same result. I've tried allowing windows to search the internet for the right driver same result. Finally i tried windows update which identified the driver, but when i try to download and install, it fails.

Could it be something is preventing this driver from being installed? I have Kaspersky Internet security 2011 and i have disabled it when i attempt to install.

Has the wifi adapter ever worked? Have you tried it on another computer? Maybe yours is defective.

just been googlin, and found your post on microsoft answers, then looked at the belkin website.

have you tried the firewall trick to allow the belkin setup to access the internet? scroll right down to see instructions for 7.

don't know if that's your trouble, but again, it's worth a try.

Strollin - I pretty sure its working. Besides, this is the 3rd device thats not installing properly.

Micky - I'll give it a go, but i'm using kaspersky so i think the windows firewall might be off. Anything's worth a try at the moment!

Micky - Just out of interest, if i'm manually updating the driver in device manager shouldn't the firewall problem be a non-issue?
