    Hard Disk Question

I have started using O&O defrag and when I analyze a certain disk it gives me an error and halts the defrag. That is not a problem. I have been running chkdsk d: /f /b from safe mode at the dos prompt. I ran it on the 17th and 18th and it gave me a log that it essentially the same. I have attached a snip from the log. The question is: Is the disk going bad? Do I have a corrupted file? Or is there some other problem? In a days span I should not have the same problem should I?

Here is the test that the BSOD squad uses to test the Hard Drive. Try it and let us know.

    HD Diagnostic

    Check your files with this
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I think that the HD test will turn out ok, too.

    Whew!

I burnt the disk with the WD Iso. It wouldn't boot. I get the message for Caldera Dos and then it hangs. I forgot I had tried that before with the same results. Tried to make a floppy. That little program keeps telling me my floppy is write protected. Thats false. Used HD Tune and found nothing. Loaded Seagate tools it seen the WD disks and didn't report any errors. Here is the crowning touch after I loaded Seagate tools, O&O defrag would no longer connect to my disks. All I get is a blank window. The service for O&O will not start. I can't even manually start it. I get this message. "Windows could not start O&O defrag service on Local Computer Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion". I have spent the rest of the day uninstalling and reinstalling O&O and trying to tweak the service to get it to run. Have made no progress whatsoever.

Lets stop using the fancy defrag, use the one that comes with the OS and give me the results.
