Can I upgrade?

I decided to do some checking in case I might be wrong, which is definitely possible on most occasions. In this case, I am left very confused AM3 sockets have 941 contacts, yet the chips use 938 pins. People have gotten AM3 chips to work in the AM2 sockets (940 contacts). I assumed the number of contacts=number of pins. Some research shows that your board can use the AM3 chip, but will more than likely require a bios update specifically for using AM3 chips. To make sure this update is available, look at the manufacturers website for it.

I have nothing much to add, but the Wikipedia entry suggests that AM3 CPUs can work in AM2+ mainboard (BIOS permitting). Apparently the onboard memory controller is also compatible with DDR2.

As regards a "450W" PSU that can deliver a maximum of 16A on the +12V rail, is there another rail in there somewhere? 16A is lousy for a 450W supply. eVGA recommends a 350W supply with a minimum of 24A for the card.

(Corsair 400W, 30A at +12V, one PCI-E 6 pin power connector). It doesn't give a lot of room for expansion, but for $32 ($20 rebate required to get to that, unfortunately) it's first rate.

Thank you all so much for your help so far. Tonight to make it easier for you all to help me out I went in my computer and looked up the exact PSU I have in this machine and WOW did I get ripped off from newegg when I bought this. Anyway here is the PSU in my machine.

I don't see what the problem is. You got a really cheap 480w, 28amp PSU, and some people have had it fail. This is normal for any piece of hardware and I have seen few items on newegg that have more than 4 eggs/stars overall. If you read some of the higher rated reviews, you see that plenty of people have had it work as expected for well over a year with no issues.

Yeah I get what you're saying that no more what company or how expensive hardware is it there's always going to be errors made during manufacturing. Things happen, unseen variables etc... but more over to the point. Will I be able to upgrade my GPU with that PSU?

Depends on the card. Some require 400 watt, some require 500 watt. Look at what each card requires before purchasing.

It might work.However, eVGA recommends at least 24A on the +12V rail, though, and you have 16.

Nope not feeling lucky at all it's my last night before I move. My other computers 7950 GT is about to burn out it's running at 208F under no load lol. Anyway I wasn't asking if the 240 GT would work with the logysis PSU I have.
